The best in the whole canton: Noemi Eugster

“I like people, I love languages, and I’m interested in the world – I’m in the right place in the hotel,” says Noemi Eugster. A look at her apprenticeship shows how much she thrives in her work as a hotel communications specialist: she was the best in the entire canton of Zurich. She is a little proud, says the 19-year-old. But there was also a bit of luck. In the job-specific subjects, she has benefited directly from the practical experience gained in hotel business. “I gained insight into all areas. Especially during the Corona period, I was able to take on a lot of responsibility.” She enjoyed her apprenticeship at the Hotel Belvoir so much that she remained loyal to the hotel even after graduating in the summer.

“We’re a casual team and I notice that they need me – that’s fun!” Noemi Eugster prefers to work at the reception, the hotel’s hub. This is where the threads of service, kitchen and housekeeping come together. This gives her a good overview to answer guests’ questions competently.
It was clear early on that she would find her happiness in the hospitality industry. As a child, she had enjoyed helping her grandmother, who worked in service, especially with decorating.

But she only learned how demanding it actually is to entertain and care for guests during her training. “I had to develop a feeling for who needs what.” You can’t treat the guests according to the X, because everyone brings their own personality with them. One thing is certain: if you are not good with people, you have no place in the profession.”

Noemi Eugster has clear ideas for the near future: she will complete her vocational baccalaureate and continue working at the Hotel Belvoir. What happens after that is still written in the stars. “The good thing is that you can work in the hotel industry all over the world. I let myself be surprised where I end up. Maybe I’ll run a hotel one day – who knows.”
